From the inauguration of CTE it was clear that a priority was the support of local working together, particularly through Intermediate Bodies who do the real work of supporting and encouraging local congregations and Christians.
The experience of the first years of Intermediate Bodies led to a call for some kind of ‘primer’ or ‘handbook’ in which their experience could be gathered together, and some guidance given as to how they might work more effectively. This Growing Unity – a handbook on ecumenical development in the counties, large cities and new towns of England was therefore published in 1995 .
Clearly now out of date, it still contains much useful information, especially in its reflection on the way Intermediate Bodies developed. Its contents page is reproduced for reference below the downloads.
