Presidents of CTE

Churches Together in England is represented by Presidents from the major traditions of our Member Churches.

There are six Presidents* of Churches Together in England, who each sign a Covenant which describes their commitment to each other and to the churches in England.

CTE’s Presidents meet regularly and liaise on a wide variety of issues of common interest and concern. In the past, they have visited the Holy Land together. Their meetings are facilitated by Mike Royal, General Secretary of CTE.

*The position of CTE’s Anglican President, which is traditionally held by the Archbishop of Canterbury, is currently vacant following the resignation of Justin Welby.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols

The Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster

Cardinal Vincent Nichols is the eleventh Archbishop of Westminster.

Born in Crosby, Liverpool, in 1945, Vincent Nichols studied for the priesthood at the Venerable English College in Rome from 1963 to 1970, gaining licences in philosophy and theology at the Gregorian University. He was ordained priest in Rome in December 1969 for the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

On 21 May 2009 he was installed as the eleventh Archbishop of Westminster, following the retirement of Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor. He was elected President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales by unanimous acclamation on 30 April 2009.

As Archbishop of Westminster, he is also Patron of the Bellarmine Institute. Cardinal Vincent is also patron of a number of Catholic charities, including the Passage and the Cardinal Hume Centre.

Bishop Tedroy Powell

CTE Pentecostal and Charismatic President, and National Overseer of the Church of God of Prophecy UK

Bishop Tedroy Powell was appointed as National Overseer of the Church of God of Prophecy UK in 2017. He has also been Senior Pastor of the House of Bread Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) in London since 1989, and National Overseer for COGOP Belgium and Netherlands since 2004.  

Bishop Tedroy’s ministry includes a focus on intentional discipleship and church planting. He has also established a social enterprise, Hillview Community Services, which provides educational support to its community. 

Ministry of God’s word and the teaching and development of leaders are also key to Bishop Tedroy’s ministry, including the provision of a range of professional training and development opportunities for pastors, church leaders, management committees and leaders of organisations within parachurch organisations and the voluntary sector.

Bishop Tedroy has been married for over 40 years and has three children.

Bishop Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman

CTE President for the Fourth Presidency Group and Head of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain

Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman comes from the Beskid Mountains in Southern Poland. She graduated from the Faculty of Theology and Ethics at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw with a thesis on the hope for universal salvation.

She was ordained in London by Rt Rev Dr Martin Lind to serve in the Lutheran Church in Great Britain. She took over as pastor of the parishes Trinity Leicester-Nottingham in 2014, St Paul's Corby in 2015, and Christ the King London in 2021. She has been a chaplain at the University of Nottingham since 2016. She is a Trustee of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain and the Council of Lutheran Churches.

She was consecrated Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain in January 2024.

Bishop Paulina is married to a church minister, theologian, activist and racial justice advocate, Rev Arlington W. Trotman (Methodist Church in Britain)

Rev Canon Helen Cameron

Moderator of the Free Churches Group

Rev Canon Helen Cameron was inducted as the Moderator of the Free Churches Group in 2022.

Helen is a Methodist presbyter who currently serves as Chair of the Northampton District. In September 2022 she will also serve as Chair of the Nottingham & Derby District. She was born in North Yorkshire, to a Methodist family. Both her parents were Methodist Local Preachers (as were her grandfather, great grandfather…) and she began preaching alongside her parents from the age of 13.

Helen trained as a physiotherapist in Edinburgh with a specialism in stroke rehabilitation. Helen’s first ministerial appointment was at Longbridge (just as decisions were being made for closure of the car factory) and Frankley (a Birmingham overspill estate where significant deprivation existed).

The Church on Frankley was a Local Ecumenical Partnership and fed Helen’s conviction that Christian denominations should be working closely together in mission and ministry. Helen spent many years in ministerial formation as a staff member of the Queens Foundation and helped to form many ministers, including Anglicans, Methodists, URC, Pentecostals and worked with many students from the global South. From 2015 -2017 she served as Assistant Secretary of the Methodist Conference.

His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas

CTE President for the Orthodox Churches, and Archbishop of the Oecumenical Patriarchate (Diocese of Thyateira and Great Britain)

Following his ordination to the priesthood, His Eminence ministered in a range of pastoral and lecturing roles in Indiana, Chicago and San Francisco, as well as Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Upon his appointment as the Director of the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute (PAOI) in 2007, he was named Metropolitan of the Dardanelles and a Hierarch of the Oecumenical Throne.

Archbishop Nikitas serves the Mother Church in Constantinople in numerous important areas including: Coordinator of the Patriarchal Task Force on Human Trafficking and Modern-day Slavery; Chairman of the Committee on Youth for the Oecumenical Patriarchate; and Co-Chair and Steering Committee member of the Elijah Inter-Faith Foundation. He has also received numerous commendations for his involvement and leadership in interfaith dialogue.

A gifted preacher and teacher, Archbishop Nikitas is fluent in English, Greek (Koine, Katharevousa, and Demotic), and Russian. He also has a working command of Latin, Church Slavonic, and Spanish.
