Churches Together in England is delighted that Rev Dr Ben Aldous has been announced as Sarum College’s newest Visiting Scholar. His appointment will go alongside his work at CTE.
Sarum College is an ecumenical centre for Christian study and research. It is based in historic grade 1-listed buildings in Salisbury’s Cathedral Close. It has served as a base for theological education for more than 160 years. Other Visiting Scholars include the Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, Professor Anthony Reddie and Dr Deborah Lewer.
“Ben’s appointment strengthens our commitment to exploring the nature and practice of mission and brings an important dimension to our work. We look forward to learning alongside him and with him,” said Rev Canon Professor James Woodward, Sarum College Principal.
Ben spent 16 years in Cambodia and South Africa, firstly as a church planter and latterly as a parish priest. He joined CTE as Principal Officer for Mission and Evangelism in 2019.
Ben is the author of Intercultural Church: Shared Learning from New Communities (Grove 2020), The God Who Walks Slowly (SCM 2022) and lead editor for Lived Mission in 21st Century Britain (SCM 2024). He is currently researching a new book on the missiology and theology of Taiwanese theologian C.S. Song, who was prolific yet almost ignored in the UK context.
