Learning to be Missionary Disciples conference 2023

Exploring the theme Living on the Edge, attendees will gather from 28 Feb to 1 March 2023 to discuss mission in the context of insecurity and fragility.

Following successful conferences in 2020 and 2021, CTE is delighted to announce the opening of bookings for the third Learning to be Missionary Disciples conference at High Leigh Conference centre in Hertfordshire, from 28 February to 1 March 2023.

The 2023 conference theme is Living on the Edge, considering the challenges of following Jesus in a time of economic, climate and justice crisis. We will take seriously the global and national levels of insecurity and fragility felt by large parts of the population, particularly around the cost of living and energy, and the justice issues linked to these.

We are very pleased to have three guest speakers joining us:

  • Eunice Attwood (Church at the Margins officer, Methodist Church)
  • Israel Olofinjana (Evangelical Alliance One People Commission)
  • Andy Flannagan (Christians in Politics)

Bookings

This is initially an invitation-only conference, aimed at denominational leaders with the portfolio for mission, evangelism and discipleship from across our 52 national Member Churches, and our mission-orientated Bodies in Association. There will also be space for theological colleges and our ecumenical colleagues working at an intermediate level.

If you have received an invitation, please book a space as soon as you are able as we have limited places. To enquire about receiving an invitation, or for any further information, please contact CTE’s Principal Officer for Mission and Evangelism Rev Dr Ben Aldous.

Subsidised tickets for young adults

We are encouraging every Member Church or Body in Association attending to bring an emerging leader under the age of 35 to participate in the conference. We have significantly subsidised all tickets for emerging leaders, following reassessment of CTE priorities and finances. Each Member Church and Body in Association can bring one emerging leader for 50% less than the full ticket price.

Creative presentations

There will be opportunity on both days to give short creative presentations (of up to but no longer than 15 mins) to stimulate conversations on the following themes:

  1. Friendship in mission and evangelism
  2. Families at the margins – discipleship in challenging circumstances
  3. Climate justice as missional action
  4. “Between a rock and a hard place” – mental health and mission

If you are attending and interested in presenting on one of these themes, please contact Ben Aldous.
