Dwelling deeply in our communities

CTE General Secretary Bishop Mike Royal reflects on participating at the Gather Movement Summit held in June 2022.

It was a great joy to participate in the Gather Movement Summit on 21-22 June 2022 in Manchester.

We came together from across the UK and focused on the theme of unity and how church leaders and Christian leaders and their organisations can play a part in the transformation of their towns and cities. The call was to dwell deeply in the places God has called us to live. It was an honour to be interviewed on the main stage by one of the leaders of the Gather Movement, David King. Together, we expressed a message of unity and oneness between the Gather Movement and Churches Together in England (CTE). I was touched by the prayer of blessing prayed for CTE by delegates and grateful for the opportunity for me to pray for unity movements across the UK.

The highlight of the first day was an inspirational interview with Andy Burnham, Mayor of Great Manchester who called for the work of faith groups to be core funded as it was making such a vital impact in addressing the post-pandemic cost of living crisis.

Whether we are Gather or CTE we all want to see the church making a tangible difference in the places God has called us to and to work alongside statutory agencies and other third sector organisations, supporting them to do the same.
