A statement from Churches Together in England following the resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby

The Archbishop of Canterbury also holds the role of the CTE President representing the Church of England.

Churches Together in England would like to thank The Most Rev Justin Welby for his dedicated service to Christian unity while he has been the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Since he took that role in 2013, he has journeyed ecumenically with us, our Member Churches and partner organisations. We would like to thank him for his participation in our key initiatives and events such as the CTE Forum, hosting CTE Presidents meetings and for extending generous hospitality to his fellow church leaders at the annual Presidents’ Dinner, the most recent of which took place last week.

We are grateful for his ecumenical support over many years and wish him the very best for the future.

To note: The holder of the role of the Archbishop of Canterbury automatically takes on the office of CTE President representing the Church of England. They are one of six Presidents of Churches Together in England, who each sign a Covenant which describes their commitment to each other and to the churches in England.
