What we do in the Churches Group for Evangelisation110308 CGfE pic2

We help the churches share the Good News of Jesus Christ together by:

  • Meeting together as national evangelism officers 3/4 times a year
  • Networking, praying, studying, reflecting together
  • Representing the wider network for evangelisation in England
  • Working together on topics of common concern
  • Producing resource papers for local church leaders
  • Being a Think Tank for churches together groups and evangelism
  • Acting as a project management group as agreed
  • Acting as an information and reference point for evangelisation in England

... fulfilling the prayer of Jesus, 'they may all be one .. so that the world may believe you have sent me'. John 17:21.

Our remit

We carry forward the agreement of national church leaders, ‘in search of the unity for which Christ prayed and in common evangelism and service of the world’. (The Swanwick Declaration).

In order to define ‘common evangelism’ we focus on the first two ‘Marks of Mission’ which are to:

  1. Proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
  2. Teach, baptise and nurture new believers

We recognise, appreciate and affirm the other 3 marks of mission and work closely with colleagues who contribute their work to these complimentary aspects of mission:

  • Respond to human need by loving service
  • seek to transform unjust structures of society
  • Strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

How we work

Members of the group meet in various different places and are involved in a wide range of networks and projects. The key purpose of meeting together in the CGfE network is to build relationships, pray, and see what the churches in England can to together in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.

Churches Together in England provides office and meeting space, as well as web hosting. Staff member Jim Currin, serves the group 3 days per week.

We network across England and provide a public service as we report back to all interested in our work. Chiefly this will be through the individual denominational networks and agencies represented, but also as we share information through the website of Churches Together in England (www.cte.org.uk / Working Together / Evangelisation). As a particular service we listen and receive news from the national network and post the news headlines and web links for the wider evangelism network through EvangelismUK

Our aim is to help churches share the Good News of Jesus Christ together.
