Local Churches Together groups

collective spirit

There are approximately 2,600 local Churches Together groups, not all of them using that title. They are all autonomous and each has a particular history of its own, shaped by the place and people who form it. Activities include services and discussion groups, conferences and events, and a wide variety of ways in which service is offered to the local community eg food banks, street pastors, youth work, lunch clubs, festivals, night shelters, chaplaincy etc.

Churches Together in England can be a point of common reference, providing resources and news relevant to groups of churches, whether informal or formally constituted.

Increasingly we hear of local groups re-forming themselves around the needs of the local community. A number of networks provide detailed resources and support for particular projects eg the Trussell Trust for food banks. For this and for many more activities that groups of churches engage in, we offer the following on our website:

  • General information

  • Examples of churches working together

  • Sometimes a reflection of emerging patterns and issues

  • Useful links

The work of local groups of churches is also supported by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and County and Intermediate Bodies as well as Agencies of Churches Together in England and some of the Bodies in Association.
